In a mature environment: Tools are integrated into an actual workflow: recruitment flows into scheduling flows into session capture flows into tagging flows into the repository flows into readouts. Teams have conventions for naming, tags, and templates. The research library has standards people follow. Tools increase velocity because the org is aligned on how to use them.
In a low maturity environment: Tools are purchased as a hope and then used inconsistently. Data lives in scattered folders that follow no logic except whatever made sense to whoever created them at 11pm on a deadline. Nobody can find anything. Stakeholders don't trust the research repository, so insights don't compound. Every study starts from zero.

- Tool sprawl and process theater. You have seventeen platforms and none of them talk to each other. Process exists for process's sake.
